Happy #BlackHistoryMonth! If you're an #OV (original vegan), you might remember this:

The first vegan website by and for African Americans - created in 1997 and upgraded in 2003 - by sisters Marya McQuirter and yours truly! 

 

 

Black Vegetarians was an online magazine we created 22 years ago to talk about all aspects of veganism for black folks. The features changed weekly - and one of our favorites was an early survey we did of black vegans: 

 

 


Here's a graph and some of the testimonials people shared about why they went vegan - the top reasons were: Health - 34, Ethical - 14%, and Religious or Spiritual - 12%:
